In scenic rural Hampshire County and
Mineral Counties, WV, and neighboring VA
Hampshire County West Virginia is nestled in the Potomac Headwaters area in the scenic Allegheny Highlands of the Appalachian Mountains. West Virginia's oldest county, Hampshire celebrated its 250th anniversary and rich heritage in 2004.
Romney, the county seat, was the first town chartered by the Virginia House of Burgesses in the area that would become West Virginia. Historically agricultural, the area thrived on apple and peach orchards. Cattle and poultry are now the primary farm products. Home to the WV Schools for the Deaf and the Blind, and the Potomac Center, a residential facility for those with developmental delays, Romney, as the county seat, has many law offices and county and state government offices. Small manufacturing operations include Hampshire Manufacturing, S.J. Morse, and MillBranch Industries, a division of VanMetre Homes. Resorts and summer camps for youths dot the countryside. Recreational opportunities abound.
ERA Creekside Realty can provide you with a copy of the Hampshire County Chamber of Commerce's Community Guide, Here in Hampshire.
